Day 21 cont'd

After a few more goodbyes at morning coffee we packed up and headed up the coast to Oregon.  We camped at the ORDKOA for the nite. It was a noisy spot as sand duners were camped there and they seemed to be going by our campsite for ever.  We met a young man who is peddling his bicycle from Mexico to Canada. He tries to do 50 miles per day.  If it was me, I would have problems doing 5 miles per day and Gerry would get in at least 10 miles per day. LOL

We rode as far as Bush Pioneer Campground and had an awesome supper at the Bay Cove Restaurant.  This place is about 20 miles south of Raymond, WA

On Sunday the 23rd we got to see the world's largest Sitka Spruce Tree. It was a lot bigger than the trees in the Redwoods.

We stayed the night at the Klahowya, WA State Park and had to pay 31.00 US and had no hot water in bathrooms.  You could have bought 3 tokens for $1.00 to have hot water in the shower, but as one camper said he used up 6 tokens and still had no hot water.  Two other ladies in the washroom the next morning said the same thing, so guess what?  We did not shower in cold water.

Today the 24th we headed for Westport WA to see the Lady Washington Sailing Ship only to find out that it was some where at sea.  We get a chance to visit the Museum.

Then on Monday the 24th we headed for Canada and crossed the over the ferry at Port Townsend before we headed north to the Port of Entry at Sumas, BC.

The Ferry was the Salish.
We got as far as the Rainbow Ranch Bridal Falls campground.

On Tuesday the 25th we broke camp and headed up the Fraser Canyon towards Hells Gate.  We took the tram ride over the canyon.

On Wednesday the 26th we made it through 100's of miles of road construction on the Trans Canada Highway in BC, then once in Alberta we had to contend with smoke from many fires burning in the area before we stopped for the nite at the Three Sister's Campground at Dead Man's Flats, AB

We were gone for 27 days, had very good weather the whole time we were gone.
We put on 7500 KM or 4660 Miles.  All in all it was an awesome holiday, but still it was nice to get home to our bed even though the bed in the tent trailer is good.

Day 16 cont'd

Horray we made it to Myers Flats by 5 PM.  Some of the gang was already there, so we set up camp and stated visiting.

The next day a 19 bikes took off for the Avenue of the Giants ride & then to Ferndale for lunch.

Then on the Wednesday 21 bikes headed for Fort Bragg on the coast.  We had a very rough curvy road to contend with, but we all made it safe & sound. Had a seafood lunch on the wharf.

On Thursday Gerry, Karl & I went back to the Avenue of the Giants to Interperative Center.

We also got to see a video of the destructive December flood of the Eel River in 1964. It was devastating.
Also we were treated to our Banquet and we had two kinds of chicken, tons of different salads and it was topped off with a Blackberry/ice cream desert. After supper we all said our goodbyes for another year and we will all head out in the morning.

Day 14 cont'd

After we got the trike picked up we headed for the Idaho Falls/Jerome KOA for the nite. Only picture we took today was of our campsite that cost us $40.00 US and it had water problems.  Only cold water in mobile portable wash rooms.

Day 15 cont'd

We really did a lot of miles today and got as far as Lakeview, OR so that we could possibly make CA in one day. We had 1050 miles to do in 3 days.

Day 7 cont'd
By 8 PM the campsite was full and by 8Am the campsite was looking like this.

Day 17

A bunch of us went into Garberville for breakfast & groceries then back to Myers Flats.  Sat around all day watching the gang pull in and visiting.

Day 18

A ride went to the Avenue of the Giants and then to Ferndale for lunch.  I believe that there were 19 bikes and about 25 people.

Day 19

Twenty bikes took off for Fort Bragg on the coast.  A real twisty crappy highway. We all went for sea food and took some pictures of the ocean. Every one ate too much and the road back was a lot better once we left the ocean area.

Day 20

Gerry & I went back to the Avenue of the Giants to see what we missed the first day there.
The banquet was awesome.  Then every one said there good byes for another year.

Day 21

Gerry & I took off and headed up the coast and stopped at the ODKOA.  Many, many sand duners were also camped there so it was a noisy nite.  We got to meet a young man who was riding his bicycle from Mexico to Canada.  Very interesting fellow.

Day 22

Rode as far as south of Raymond, WA to a camp ground called Bush Pioneer Park. Supper at the Cove of the Bay  Very good supper.

Day 23

We made to the Klahowya WA State Park and got to see a Giant Spruce Tree.  This camp was very expensive and all you got was cold water to shower & wash with so we had to heat water in our little pot to be able to wash with in the morning. Not impressed for $30.

Day 24

Crossed the border back into Canada at Sumas and the headed for Bridal Falls,  Stayed at the Rainbow Ranch camp ground.

Day 25

We headed north thru the Canyon on Highway #1 and stopped at Hells Gate and took the tram down and over the Fraser Canyon and then we took the foot bridge over the canyon.  Stopped for the night at Brookside Camp ground in Cache Creek and then went to the Husky for a very nice supper.

No pictures as they will not upload for some reason. If you want to see the picture you will have to come & visit us once we have them on the house computer. LOL

We have a couple of interesting stories to tell people but not on line.  Too emberasing.

Day 16

It was a travel day.  We did 370 Miles with 300 of it being all twisties & mountains.  10 hours of labor on the trike. But we made made it to Myers Flats about 7 PM.  It is not a good camp ground as washrooms not working.

Day 17

Up and to have a decent breakfast we had to go 21 miles.  So when we got there we got us some food in case we get hungry in the next  couple of days.  We may not be on this again for a while.

Day 15

Tried to get an old fashioned breakfast at a truck stop, but all you can get now a days is junk food.
Put in a 10 hour day on the bikes and we are camped at Base Camp RV Park in Lakeview, OR 460 miles as we got an early start today.  The first half of the day we had cloud cover so it was easy riding even with temperature in the 80's.  I have never seen Gerry drink more than one glass of water a day at home, but on this trip it is more like 1 gallon a day plus.  The camp ground (KOA) was horrible last night as they only had portable washrooms as their bathrooms had a major break down and they did not tell us till after we had paid our monies and booked in.
Good night

Day 9-14

After sitting for six days in Rock Springs, WY we finally got Anne's bike back today, so we headed out on the Interstate about 11ish and made it as far as Twin Falls/Jerome ID to the KOA.  It was only 96 degrees F when we pulled in.  Have no clue as to what that is in C.  In my opinion it is hotter than Hadies.
we so far have only drank at least a gallon each of fluids.
Would like to put a couple of pictures in but no luck with this service.

Day 8

We headed south after a very good breakfast at Granny's again. Rough payment just like highway 12 at it's worse. Then the road smoothed out and became really good.  We went thru Thermopolis, then down the Wind River canyon. Awesome ride. Temp is 86 degrees or 35Cish.Got into the KOA at Rock Springs, WY.  We are truly set up on the desert.  Went to go to supper on Anne's bike and guess what???  Bike started then quit so it was 2 up on Gerry's bike for supper at Applebee's. Can not call the HD shop till noon tomorrow, so we could be here a couple of days if they do not have there service dept open on Sunday.
Gerry thinks that it is a spark problem.

This valley was breath taking NE of Rock Springs.

This is our desert camping.
Good night

Day 7

After a delicious breakfast at Granny"s we headed for Old Town.

We spent at least 2 Hours there and maybe have found more information for the Morrison Family Tree as the information I got is the same info that I already have.  Amazing. Will check further when we get home.
There wer many old cabins, stores, etc built in the 1800's.

We then went back to the Museum for about 5 hours more to look at the exhibits that we missed yesterday.

Taking a break at the chuckwagon for beans & biscuits cooked over an open fire. The old cowboy was very informative and we enjoyed the visit.

This Kodiak Bear weighed at least 1600 lbs.
One of the McCracken expeditions went as far north as the north sea. Picture of schooner below.  He contributed a lot of information on bears and northern wildlife.

We are going to pack up in morning from our cozy campsite and start heading further south so we do not have to go thru Yellowstone National Park as we were told that it is very, very busy there.

Good night.

Day 6

Beautiful start to the day. Hot already. Had breakfast at Grannie's then off to the Bill Cody Museum. Toured around the gun section for 2 hours before our Trolley tour left.  Toured all around Cody and also out to the dam west of town.

Gerry thoght that his leatherman was ok till he saw this one

The tour was worth every dime of the $19.00 we each had to pay. We were taken all over Cody and were shown all the historical places & buildings as well as the dam west of Cody.  The tour was one hour in length.

We learned a lot about raptors.  Found out that they are super heros with their telescopic eye site, hearing & 200 MPH speed.

For supper we went back to Grannies and Gerry ordered a Chief Salad and when they brought it out on a wheel barrow he then proceeded to eat it and finished it about 45 minutes later.  But guess what after we got back to the Ponderosa we walked to DQ for a small sundae to finish the day off.
As he is always saying, that he will never have to eat again as long as he lives. LOL

Day 5

Broke camp & headed into Red Lodge for breakfast before heading up & over the Bears Tooth Pass.Perfect weather but at 10,000 feet it was warm enough that we did not have to put on jackets. Anne had clutch problems about 5 miles up the pass, so Gerry got his tool kit out and bled the clutch line. Walla back to normal.

Then it was up & over the Chief Joseph Pass

Into Cody 2 PM & got set up at the Ponderosa Camp ground.  Went down town for supper.  Came out and it was pouring with loud thunder.  Got a couple of seats for the gun fight in front of the Irma Hotel.

Looking forward to a nice sleep after a very busy day.
