Day 24
We spent the last night at Shannon & Dave's in Spokane. We had gone to Boston Pizza for supper, then home to watch a movie.
Shannon had to be at work by 7 AM so we had breakfast with David before we headed north towards Canada in the rain/snow.

By the time we got to the border it was sunny.  We stopped in to Leonard's in Creston for a visit.  He was sure surprised to see us on his door step.
We then booted for home. Stopped in Fort MacLeod for groceries and fuel.  Picked up some burgers going through Claresholm and also got our mail once we got to Clive and was at our door step at 9PM.  W e traveled 5415 miles in 24 days.
We got to see some of my cousins along the way and also visited with some very dear friends who I have not seen in a long time.  We had a very enjoyable trip.

Day 23

Left Boise & headed north towards Spokane. We went over a few mountain passes which were covered with snow.

Stopped at the lookout point just north of Lewiston.

Got into Spokane to Shannon & Dave's about 3PM. Will be here for the night.

Day 22

Today all that we did was drive to Boise, ID and had lunch at Dave & Benita's & family.  For supper we went to Cousin Brian & Mary Kay's before we went to the Motel 6 for the night.

Day 21

Left Vegas this morning and it was 25C. Headed north with the top up for the first time in almost  3 weeks.  The top stayed up all day as it got down to 15.8 C.
The further north we got the more snow we saw on the mountains.
We guess it's goodbye to the 30+ degree weather.  Will need to stop at a Walmart to buy long underwear so that we will make it home without freezing. LOL   Tonight we are n Twin Falls, ID and tomorrow will be in Boise at friends and family.

Day 20
Last night we stayed at a high end hotel/casino which was the second last room in Vegas available due to spring break, conventions & St Pat's Day.  The Wi-fi was too plugged up to post anything on the blog.We lost $4 gambling. LOL. The next morning we headed for Hoover Dam which was my high light of the whole trip.

We then got a motel room about 10 miles + from down town Vegas.  We went to the Mob Museum and spent about 2 hours there.
After supper we found a parking spot in one of the hotels down town which was a terrifying experience.
Found our way to Madam Tossard's Wax Museum.

Now we are faced with trying to find our way back to where we parked the car.  It was an acre square and about 9 levels high. We were on the 7th C level.  We did find it with not much trouble, but were faced with the Friday night crowd and horrendous traffic.
We enjoyed our time in Vegas and patted ourselves on the back after safely reaching our motel by 9 PM.

Day 19
We left San Diego and headed north to Dana Point.

Cliff where hides were thrown down to the men who loaded them on boats, and where then rowed out to the ship.
Hide throwing from this very spot over the cliff
The statue of Richard Henry Dana JR, who wrote the book Two Years Before The Mast having spent 1835 on the west coast as a sailor and a hide drogher.  Gerry has had intense interest since he was 13 years old and is responsible for his interest in sail.
On our way to Vegas we drove through the Joshua Forrest.

Day 18
We hit the jackpot for sailors at the San Diego Maritime Museum. We spent 6 hours there and Gerry was enthralled with every second of it, and I took only 134 pictures.  He was able to speak with a 94 year old model builder, and he hopes that when he is 94, he will be in that good of shape as well.  He also believes that his models stood up to anything there on display.  He was able to consult with some of the workers there restoring of the ships in  the harbor.  His knowledge seems to be over & above most of the guys that he talked with.

Then we left San Dieago as the afternoon rush hour was just starting.  It took us north to Oceanside in just under and hour.  Should only have been 27 minutes.  Will do Dana Point tomorrow.

Day 17
After breakfast we headed for the Yuma Territorial Prison.

Then we headed for San Diego via the GPS.  It took us 1 hour out of our way to the motel, but at least we got to see parts of California that a normal tourist would not see. LOL.  Gerry is planning on using the GPS for a skipping stone into the Pacific tomorrow.

Day 16
We started the day out after breakfast going to Algodonas, Mexico.

After getting our vanilla, we walked around and Gerry was able to get a belt buckle  (he did not haggle the price like I would have), but he still got a bargain.
We then visited with friends Gord & Marion in East Yuma.  Afterwards we headed for Welton to visit with Gary & Karen for a couple of hours.  Back to Yuma and had supper at Cracker Barrel.

Day 15

We think that it is the first day of day light savings time at home, but here in AZ, they don't seem to change, so we are letting our stomachs tell us what time to eat. LOL.  We left Lake Havasu after a very good breakfast at Denny's and headed for  Quartzsite where we visited with Dan & Wanda Damron for a couple of hours before we went to the flea market across the highway.  Of course Gerry found a few things that we could not live without. Trunk is getting fuller each day, so may have to buy a little cargo trailer before we get home. LOL.
Tomorrow we hope to see Gary & Karen in Welton and then go across the border to Algodones, Mexico for more shopping.

Day 14 cont'd

We went to Denny's for supper before driving across the London Bridge.  We then parked the car and walked over the bridge, and back and then we walked under the bridge, and guess what?  The London Bridge did not fall down.

We had a really good breakfast of bacon & eggs at Rod & Wendy's. Hit the road about 10ish. Stopped at a burriel sit on our way to Oatman.

Then into Oatman after a very twisty road that would break a snake's back. We spent a few hours in Oatman and watched a gun fight on main street.  Got to feed & pet the burrows. Of course we had to buy more t-shirts, etc.

Left Oatman and headed for Lake Havasu and got into a motel 6, which after saving 4 nights from staying at a cousins in Phoenix, we blew it all on this room for today.

Friday, March 11, 2016

Mornings down here can be freezing temperatures. Days can be in the 70's, but today it is awfully windy.  Traveled on the Historic Route 66 today and found a lot of interesting towns.  We used a couple of hours just going thru the shops, and bought a lot of route 66 goodies.

We are spending the night at Rod & Wendy's just west of Kingman. They fed us a nice BBQ supper and had a very good visit. Tomorrow is swap meet a couple of miles down the road. Maybe we see more bike chrome in the near future???
